A Small Change That Transformed a Young Woman’s Confidence. A Story From Our Ontex Nurse Advisor
As an Ontex nurse advisor, one of the most meaningful parts of my work is supporting continence teams, patients, and their caregivers through challenges that often go far beyond choosing a product. Every situation is deeply personal, and sometimes a small, human solution can make a world of difference.
Recently, we met a young woman who needed high-absorbency incontinence products. She was doing everything right — wearing the correct product for her needs — yet she was still experiencing leakage. The impact went far beyond the physical inconvenience.
She began losing confidence… and eventually stopped attending the college she loved.

Working with her and her mother, we tried a two-piece system: an iD Form pad paired with net fixation pants. Clinically, it worked perfectly. The leakage stopped. But emotionally? It wasn’t working.
The young woman felt uncomfortable and distressed, worried that the nets might show through her clothes. And as many caregivers know, if someone doesn’t feel confident in the solution, it isn’t a real solution.
That’s when a colleague shared something she’d learned from another family in a similar situation:
light control underwear — a simple, everyday garment that can hold a pad securely in place without looking or feeling like a medical product.
We passed the idea on to the young woman’s mother.
A few weeks later, her mother called back — this time with happiness in her voice. The light control underwear not only worked just as effectively as the nets…
it restored her daughter’s sense of normalcy.
For the first time in months, the young woman felt comfortable, confident — even excited — to choose the colours and styles she liked. She returned to college. She got her independence back. And that, more than anything else, is the goal of continence care.
At Ontex, we know that the best solutions are sometimes found in unexpected places.
If this story resonates with you, we hope this small tip might help you or someone you care for.
You’re not alone. And we’re always here to help.
